Book signing: Is Helgi Danielsson really a Posh legend?
Posh fan Rose Tilley, 18, with Edbon to Charlery Posh Legends book author Jamie Jones and (2nd l-r), Posh past and present players, Grant McCann, David Farrell, Gaby Zakuani, Noel Luke, Worrell Sterling, Jack Carmichael, John Cozens, at Waterstones, Bridge Street.
SO what makes a football legend?
Creating and scoring goals at Wembley as the headline acts in a new Posh book ‘Ebdon to Charlery, London Road Legends’ managed obviously qualifies.
As does playing hundreds of games, trying your heart out in every one of them and proving such an inspirational skipper Posh emerged from a long spell in the doldrums to win back to back promotions. Take a bow Mick Halsall.
But the beauty of football debate is the weird and wonderful directions it can take. I’ve watched Posh for 40 years and if Helgi Danielsson is a Posh legend, Gary Johnson will be the next manager of Barcelona.
It’s a minor quibble as is a complete lack of photos (they would have ramped up the printing costs considerably) as Posh have had some terrific characters in their time (Ray Hankin, Gerry McElhinney, Guy Branston etc) and all are done justice in this book.
Most of the chapters are contributed by ordinary fans paying homage to their heroes. The best are on Denis Emery and Dean Hooper.
It’s been put together by Jamie Jones, a fan and co-presenter of a popular Posh podcast, and he has a minor hit on his hands.
Over 300 copies were sold in the first couple of days after publication. At £9.99 it’s a bargain and available from Waterstones on Bridge Street and at the Posh club shop.
It is also available as an e-book - the only modern day Peterborough book to feature on Kindle.

Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 02:24 PMWe've had some big names at posh, such as Tony Millington...Welsh No2 keeper, Dereck Kevan ex West Brom and England centre forward....admittedly at the tail end of his career. The two strikers that stand out for me are Terry Bly and Jim Hall. Such a tragedy that Dennis Emery was involved in a car crash!
