Survival in Stamford’s hands, Star lose cup final

It’s win or bust for AFC Stamford in their battle against relegation from the Northern Premier Division on Saturday (April 25).

The Daniels could have been relegated if results had gone against them last night (April 21), but Witton Albion’s defeat at Ashton United has thrown the local club a lifeline.

Stamford must now beat Witton at the Zeeco Stadium to stay up and relegate their opponents.

Spalding’s hopes of a play-off place in Division One South took a hit last night when a goal 15 minutes from time earned hosts Tividale a 1-1 draw. Matt Nolan had shot ‘The Tulips’ in front in the first-half.

Spalding will probably have to win at Romulus in their final game of the season and hope a couple of other results go their way to finish in a play-off place.

Peterborough Northern Star delivered a plucky display against Conference North side Brackley before slipping to a 4-1 defeat in the Northants FA Hillier Cup at Sixfields, the home of Northampton Town FC.

Star created, but missed, a host of scoring chances before and after substitute Luke Avis had smacked home a spectacular equaliser early in the second-half. Will Green showed them how it’s done by grabbing a hat-trick, the second of which crucially arrived within 60 seconds of Avis equalising.

Deeping Rangers lost their penultimate game of the ChromaSports and Trophies United Counties Premier Division 3-1 at Harrowby. Spencer Tinkler missed a penalty for Deeping, minutes before Matt Holland claimed a consolation goal.

March missed their chance to move back into the top six of Turlow Nunn Division One by losing 2-1 at Dereham Town Reserves. Liam Merryweather had headed March into a first-half lead.

In the Peterborough Premier Division Netherton increased the relegation woes of Holbeach United Reserves by winning 2-0 at Carter’s Park.

City rivals Peterborough Sports Reserves and ICA Sports drew 0-0 at PSL, while Stilton’s poor form continued with a 4-0 home defeat to Sawtry.

Premier Division Moulton Harrox contest the Lincs Junior Cup Final against Hykeham at Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank ground tonight (April 23. 7.45pm).

ICA Sports B and Rutland Dead Rabbits contest the PFA Minor Cup Final at Chestnut Avenue, also this evening (7.30pm).
