Star are closing in on the FA Vase final
NON-LEAGUE: Peterborough Northern Star are three matches away from a dream date at Wembley.
The city side booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Vase with a stirring 2-0 fifth round triumph at Midlands side Tividale on Saturday.
Karl Gibbs and Jonny Stead struck for Star in extra-time. They had played with 10 men from the 19th minute following the harsh dismissal of their skipper Jimmy Dean for two yellow cards.
Proud manager Chris Plummer said: “It is a magnificent achievement for the club. I could not be more proud.”
Star face Gateshead side Dunston UTS – who have already put out locals Wisbech Town – in the last eight at Chestnut Avenue on March 3

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 03:03 PMThat was an absolutely magnificent performance by Star, a team of a great mix of youngsters and experience, but mainly all LOCAL guys. No "big name, big money" stars, just a well developed back room team of Chris Plummer and his guys, players with hearts of oak, in a match that it was impossible to determine which side had 10 players. Congrats Star, and, all you locals, remember the date, Saturday March 3rd, remember the venue, Focus, and remember that is the Quarter Final of the FA Vase, kick off 3pm, against a very strong team from the North East, Dunston. BE THERE.
