Peterborough Northern Star couldn’t be heading into a new United Counties Premier League season in worse form.

A 3-2 defeat at city rivals Peterborough Sports last weekend left Star without a win in seven friendly outings this summer.

Star co-manager Seb Hayes has lost several strong players, but he has raided his former club Huntingdon for four players, most recently striker Chris Jones.

It’s a trip into the unknown for Star who open their Premier Division campaign at new side Kirby Muxloe who are based in Leicestershire.

Deeping Rangers, under new manager Michael Goode, have looked good in pre-season.

Deeping appear to have plenty of firepower after capturing prolific marksman Scott Mooney from Holwell Sports and last season’s Sleaford skipper Scott Coupland who bagged 20 goals at Premier Division level last season.

Deeping open their competitive season at home to Northampton Sileby Rangers.

Wisbech and Holbeach expect to challenge at the top end of the table.

Wisbech are now under the management of former Yaxley and March boss Brett Whaley.

The Fenmen lost some of last season’s squad in the summer, but Whaley has recruited well. Unfortunately star defensive capture Stuart Wall - a former Posh youngster - may miss the opening game at home to newly-promoted Rothwell Corinthians.

Holbeach will be looking to ex-Wisbech forward Josh Ford for goals. He bagged a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Boston recently.
