TWO of Northern Star’s leading players will miss the biggest match in the Peterborough club’s history.

The date of a mouth-watering FA Vase quarter-final at home to North-East side Dunston UTS on Saturday, 3rd March clashes with the stag-do of full-back Nathan Horne.

Also involved in his jaunt to Las Vegas is goalscoring talent Jonny Stead who applied the final gloss from the penalty spot in a rousing 2-0 fifth round tie at Midlands outfit Tividale on Saturday.

Star boss Chris Plummer said: “It’s obviously really unfortunate how things have panned out with the stag-do.

“It’s a blow for us to be going into the game without two important players and the lads will no doubt be disappointed to miss it as well.”

One piece of good news for Star is that influential skipper Jimmy Dean is expected to be free to face a Dunston side who elminated Wisbech at the fourth round stage and have lost just twice all season in Division One of the Northern League.

Dean was harshly sent off for collecting two cautions early in the club’s success at Tividale on Saturday but his suspension is not likely to come through until next month.

Dean, Horne and Stead will all be present tonight though when Star resume another quest for honours.

The city men’s defence of the United Counties League Cup gathers pace as they face S & L Corby in a quarter-final tie at Chestnut Avenue (7.45pm).

Star have already completed a Premier Division double over tonight’s opponents but Plummer is bracing himself for a tough test in a match which follows hot on the heels of Star’s gruelling Saturday shift when they played with 10 men for 100 minutes.

Plummer added: “It is undoubtedly going to be tough for the lads to raise themselves again after putting in such a terrific effort at Tividale.

“But this is another big game and one that we want to win.

“Lifting the cup last season was a great achievement and we are determined to do all we can to keep hold of it.

“We’ve done the double over S & L but that will probably only serve to make tonight’s match harder because they definitely won’t want to lose to us for a third time.”

New signing Kieran Davies is in line for a Star debut. The former Blackstones, St Neots and Boston Town man can play out wide or up front.

Elsewhere tonight Wisbech entertain Norwich United in the Ridgeons Premier Division while March make a third attempt to visit Thetford Town in a Ridgeons First Division Knockout Cup quarter-final tie.

Blackstones host town rivals Stamford in a friendly at Lincoln Road (7.30pm). Admission is £3.
