Non-league: Rayment gets his first win as Tulips boss

CHROMASPORT & TROPHIES UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE, Premier Division

SPALDING 2, NEWPORT PAGNELL 1

PAT Rayment toasted his first win Tulips chief – and exorcised a personal demon in the process.

Rayment had been on the receiving end of a couple of hidings from Pagnell during his time as Deeping manager, but there was no repeat on Saturday.

“I was walking around with a big smile on my face all weekend,” said Rayment. “The lads were outstanding.”

Spalding fell behind early but Ricky Miller’s first goal for the club hauled them level after the break. Full-back Josh Ford was then dismissed but it didn’t stop Spalding grabbing a winner through Tom James.

Spalding: Conroy, Ford, Hussey, Fuff, Ashton, French, Bolland, Porter, James, Smith, Miller. Unused: Lyon, Brady, O’Loughlin.

YAXLEY 1, HOLBEACH 2

HOLBEACH completed a derby double – but not without a fight.

The Tigers fell behind at local rivals Yaxley inside the opening minute when Sam Bettinson struck after seizing on a mis-hit goal-kick from keeper Leigh Overton.

But Holbeach had turned the tide before the break courtesy of an Ash Stevens leveller and a classy free-kick from Andrew Tidswell.

“Yaxley have given us two hard games,” said Holbeach boss John Chand. “We’re very happy to come out of them with six points.”

Holbeach: Overton, Allen, Jackson, Brown, J. Stevens, Flack, Kennedy (Goodhand), Lewis, Wilson (Griffiths), A. Stevens (Treacher), Tidswell. Unused: Warfield, Elston.

Yaxley: Jordan, Wood, Holland, Stone, Hailstone, Sessions (Zamir), Asensi (De Sousa), Challinor, Smith, Bettinson, Hipwell. Unused: Rosser, Bate.

WELLINGBOROUGH 0, DEEPING 2

MATTY Evans waved a goalscoring farewell to Deeping with a second goal in as many games.

The full-back struck five minutes into his final appearance of the season before joining the Army.

Rangers had to wait until late on to wrap up the points when substitute Kev Gilbert struck a second.

Boss Tuncay Korkmaz said: “It was a nice for Matt to go out with another goal and we had a night out to say goodbye to him afterwards.”

Deeping: Doughty, Tinkler, Jackson, Burton-Jones, Logan, Weston, Holt, Moreman (Gilbert), Heron, Beck (Ginty), Evans. Unused: Barber.

DAVENTRY UTD 1, BLACKSTONES 3

SIMON Mowbray made a sparkling two-goal Stones debut.

The former Spalding frontman cancelled out an early Daventry opener and then nodded his new club ahead just before the break.

Adam Scotcher secured the points when converting a second-half penalty after Danny Barker had been sent tumbling as the Stamford side went fourth in the table.

Blackstones: Crockett, Avory, Quy, Porter, Hunnings, Burns, Avis (Buckle), Boome (Pearce), Mowbray, Scotcher (Smitheringale), Barker.
