Holbeach United picked up their first win of the season last night (August 12) in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League Premier Division.
The Tigers, who lost 1-0 at Desborough Town on Saturday, bounced back to beat Sleaford 2-0 in a Lincolnshire derby.
Chances were few and far between in a sterile affair and the only noteworthy move of the first half saw Andy Tidswell feed strike partner Josh Ford, who tricked a defender only to find Phil McGann well placed to save.
The second half produced little of note until the 71st minute when Corey Newman’s foul on Ford saw Holbeach awarded a spot kick which Ford converted low to the keeper’s right.
Thankfully the game livened up in the closing stages as Holbeach began to show some glimpses of their potential. Gary King’s curling shot looked bound for the top corner until McGann’s intervention diverted the ball over the crossbar.
The home success was sealed after 86 minutes when substitute Jake Clitheroe did well on the right, pulling the ball back to Tidswell who swivelled to fire low into the corner beyond McGann’s reach.
Holbeach: Tom Roberts, Dan Worthington, Chris Ward, Ollie Pinner, Jonny Clay, Jamie Stevens, Gary King, Stacy Cartwright (Callum Madigan), Josh Ford (Harry Limb), Andy Tidswell, Andy Law (Jake Clitheroe).
