NON-LEAGUE: Stones suffer shoot-out agony in County final

A Jekyll and Hyde Blackstones performance ended with a 7-6 penalty shoot-out heartbreak in the Lincs Senior Trophy Final at Lincoln City's Sincil Bank ground last night (May 3).

Phil Gadsby’s men were well on top of opponents Winterton Rangers in the first half and built a two goal lead courtesy of a superb 20-yard strike from Scott Ginty on 20 minutes and a Ben Porter effort 10 minutes later

But the second half was a different story with Paul Morrill reducing the arrears three minutes after the restart.

With Stones looking shaky in defence Rob Northern squared the contest after 70 minutes.

The match went to penalties with Matt Simpson, Porter, Jacob Smitheringale, Dan Evans, Ginty and Rhys Ford all scoring for Stones.

But Winterton proved equally adept in the shoot out and scored seven in a row to pile the pressure on Carl Griffiths who was denied by the Winterton ‘keeper as the cup went north.

Holbeach United host Wisbech Town in the final match of the United Counties Premier Division at Carter’s Park tomorrow (May 4, 7.45pm). The winners will finish fourth.
