Peterborough Northern Star warmed-up for their big city derby with Peterborough Sports in fine style today (November 28).

Star beat second-placed Newport Pagnell 2-1 in the United Counties Premier Division thanks to goals from Matt Simpson and Jacob Joyce. Star make the short trip to runaway Division One leaders Sports, who won a Northants Junior Cup game at lower level Kettering Nomads 1-0 thanks to a Karl Gibbs goal today, on Tuesday (December 1).

Holbeach bounced back from their FA Vase disappointment with a superb 5-0 Premier Division win over in-form Harborough Town at Carter’s Park.

The visitors hadn’t tasted defeat in their seven previous matches and it was the 38th minute before Jake Clitheroe fired Holbeach in front. Lee Beeson then scored from the penalty spot two minutes later and it was then plain sailing for ‘The Tigers’ after Jordan Thomas added a third goal in added time before the break.

Beeson scored his second goal of the game in the second-half when Gary King also hit the target. Holbeach are third, 13 points behind leaders Leicester Nirvana with three games in hand. Nirvana’s scheduled match was postponed today thanks to a sickness bug in the Huntingdon camp.

Deeping Rangers are up to fifth in the Premier Division after a convincing 4-1 away win at Rothwell Corinthians. Scott Coupland made it 15 goals for the season with a brace after Spencer Tinkler and Jack Cotton had shot Deeping 2-0 ahead.

But a mediocre season for Wisbech Town continued with a 1-0 reverse at Eynesbury,

Blackstones and Bourne achieved impressive wins over Division One promotion contenders Irchester and Potton respectively.

Irchester were 1-0 ahead early on and fought back to 2-2 early in the second-half before goals in the final 20 minutes from Matt Simpson and Addie Staffieri secured the points for Stones. Jacob Smitheringale and Dan Evans scored the other Stones’ goals.

Bourne won their match at Potton 1-0 thanks to a 92nd minute strike from Kieran Blanchard.

Mid-table March Town were beaten 4-2 at home by King’s Lynn Reserves in the Thurlow Nunn First Division. Luke Pepper and Lewis McManus scored for March.

Spalding kept their promotion challenge going in Evo Stik Division South with a 1-1 draw at Rugby. The fourth-placed Tulips will be disappointed with a point though as Paul Walker’s goal saw in front at half-time against lowly opposition.
