Peterborough Sports should be celebrating the capture of the United Counties Division One title by the end of the Easter weekend.

Wins over next-to-bottom Bugbrooke St Michael tomorrow (March 26, 3pm) and eighth-placed Thrapston on Monday, March 28, 1pm) will seal top spot for Jimmy Dean’s dominant city team.

Sports have won 26 and lost three of their 29 league games so far and they boast a 100 per cent winning record at home.

Raff Mazzarella has been appointed manager of United Counties League Premier Division side Peterborough Northern Star for next season.

Current boss Seb Hayes announced his intention to step down in the summer for personal reasons several weeks ago.

Mazzarella has been working as Hayes’ assistant during Star’s current run of one win in 13 matches.

Star are at Sleaford for a league game tomorrow before hosting local rivals Yaxley on Monday (3pm).
