Sports won their first 21 league games of the campaign. Avelino Vieira’s 33rd goal of the season in the 57th minute at PSL yesterday made it 28 wins and three defeats from 31 games and extended a perfect winning home record. They had sealed promotion in style on Saturday (March 26) with a 6-1 thumping of Bugbrooke St Michaels and the their goal differenece is now plus 100!

Sports boss Jimmy Dean said: “Well done to all my lads. I’m proud to be associated with all of them. Also a big, huge massive thank you to my chairman Steve Cooper. He really is an gentleman and& makes everything possible and worthwhile.”

Dean’s men now have one trophy in the bag, but it could well be four by the end of the season as they have reached the finals of the United Counties League Cup, the Northants Junior Cup and the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

Blackstones and Bourne met in a Division One derby yesterday and for the fifth time in a row between these two rivals it finished all square. There was a dramatic finish to the latest clash as Bourne led 1-0 going into the final 10 minutes before requiring a last-gasp equaliser from James Zealand to force a 2-2 draw.

Zak Munton shot Bourne ahead in the early stages before late goals from Ben Porter and Zak Fisher looked to have given Stones the win. Bourne stay fifth and Stones are ninth.

Peterborough Northern Star won the Premier Division derby against Yaxley at Chestnut Avenue in convincing fashion. Two goals from Craig Smith and another from Jezz Goldson-Williams secured a 3-0 success. All the goals arrived in the second half for a city side recording just a second win in 14 matches.

It was a bad day for Stamford AFC even though they saw their own Evo Stik Premier Division game at Barwell postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Wins for relegation rivals Mickleover Sports and Marine leaves ‘The Daniels; five points and two places from safety with just seven matches to go. They now travel to Barwell tomorrow (March 30).

Spalding boss Marcus Ebdon has accepted the Division One South play-offs are now beyond his side after a 0-0 home draw with Lincoln United yesterday.

March Town United saw off the bottom two in Division One of the Thurlo Nunn Eastern Counties League in their previous two games, but found third-placed Ely a much tougher proposition yesterday and lost 2-0 at the GER.
