Peterborough Sports, who have been creating some national interest lately, have reached the halfway stage in United Counties Division One with their perfect playing record intact.

But the city side survived a couple of huge scares yesterday (December 26) before securing win number 18 at Thrapston. Substitute goalkeeper Lea Jordan - he was on the pitch after regular number one Luke McShane limped off - saved a penalty at 0-0 and Sports then had to come from behind to win 2-1 with second-half strikes from Karl Gibbs and David Cobb. The winner arrived 18 minutes from time.

Sports are the only side at their level and above with a perfect playing record in all of England.

Sports put that record on the line again tomorrow (December 28) when Bourne are the visitors to PSL. And Bourne will arrive in good spirits after pipping local rivals Blackstones 1-0 yesterday. In-form Zak Munton headed the only goal of the game in the first half.

In the Premier Division local rivals Yaxley and Peterborough Northern Star fought out a 2-2 draw at In2itive Park. The city side probably left the happier as they twice fell behind to goals from their former player Jon Stead, but twice Chris Jones delivered equalisers.

The match between Wisbech and Holbeach was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch which leaves ‘The Tigers’ seven points behind leaders Leicester Nirvana who beat Kirby Muxloe 1-0 yesterday. Holbeach, who are third, have two games in hand and host Yaxley tomorrow.

Rock-bottom Huntingdon have now lost 11 matches in a row, and failed to score in the last four, after losing 6-0 at neighbours Eynesbury.

Stamford AFC’s plight at the wrong end of the Evo Stik Northern Premier Division worsens by the week.

They still haven’t won a home game in 11 attempts this season. Barwell took the points away from the Zeeco Stadium with a 2-1 win secured by a goal on the stroke of half-time. Greg Smith had earlier equalised for ‘The Daniels’.

And it’s three defeats in a row in Division One South for Spalding United as they went down 1-0 at promotion rivals Lincoln United. Former Spalding favourite Jack McGovern scored the only goal of the game in the early stages with Adam Jackson coming closest to an equaliser when rattling the crossbar from long range.

Two key men left Spalding in the build-up to the game. Jake Newman has joined Stamford and Mitch Griffiths has moved to Lincoln United.

There is a full programme of non-league fixtures tomorrow.
