Managerless Bourne came within a minute of breaking the unbeaten record of United Counties Division One leaders Sewart & Lloyds last night (September 22).

Bourne, under the caretaker-management of Steve Wilson, raced out of the blocks and were 2-0 up inside 12 minutes through Joe Moore-Papworth and Glenn Spearink before Stewart & Lloyds pulled a goal just after the break.

Bourne looked like recording back-to-back wins under Wilson until the visitors to the Abbey Lawns equalised in the 89th minute.

In the United Counties League Cup there were comfortable wins for Yaxley and Peterborough Sports.

The top-flight Cuckoos won 2-0 at Division One side Raunds through goals from Kyle Nolan and Ricky Hailstone, while Division One title favourites beat bottom club Long Buckby’s young side 4-0 at their PSL stadium.

Avelino Vieira scored twice for Sports with Jamie Thurlbourne, with his first goal for the club, and Matt Cook also on target.

Holbeach United’s 11-game unbeaten run came to a sticky end at Boston in the Lincs Senior Trophy. The home side won 5-0 against a Tigers’ team with one eye on Saturday’s (September 26) big FA Cup tie against Worcester City at Carter’s Park.

Peterborough Northern Star’s Northants Hillier Trophy tie at Rothwell Corinthians was abandoned after 15 minutes after a home player suffered a serious injury. Star led 1-0 at the time, but the game will be re-staged.

Spalding United drew their Evo Stik Division One South match at Basford. Josh Moreman twice gave ‘The Tulips’ the lead, but the home side equalised for the second time 10 minutes from time.

Blackstones are in United Counties Division One action at home to St Neots Saints tonight (September 23)

And there’s a first appearance in the Hinchingbrooke Cup for city side Netherton United, but the Peterborough Premier Division outfit will have their work cut out to get a positive result at Oakham United. Oakham won the Peterborough Premier Division title last season and are currently second in United Counties Division One.
