Super Spalding United made it 10 wins and two draws from their last 12 competitive games with a 3-0 Evo Stik Division One South win over Carlton Town at the Sir Halley Stewart Field yesterday (January 1).

It was an eighth home win in a row for the terrific Tulips who remain in fourth place following two goals for Andrew Tidswell and one for Jamie Thurlbourne. Thurlbourne’s arrived from the penalty spot following an offence which led to a second red card for the visitors.

Former Posh player Lee Clarke made his debut for Spalding.

Spalidng are back in league action tomorrow (January 3) when visiting play-off rivals Gresley.

It wasn’t such good news for Stamford in the Premier Division who were undone by one of their old boys at King’s Lynn. Greg Smith came on as a substitute for the home side midway through the second half and scored with virtually his first kick of the game.

Stamford are down in 18th place ahead of their trip to second-placed Buckden tomorrow. The Daniels are now without a league win since November 22.

In the United Counties Premier Division Rushden & Diamonds won 2-1 against Wellingborough Town to move eight points clear of second-placed Holbeach United. Rushden’s scheduled home game with Deeping Rangers tomorrow has been postponed.

Holbeach won’t make up ground as they are in League Cup action against Rothwell at Carter’s Park and nor will third-placed Yaxley who host higher-level St Neots Town in the semi-final of the Hunts Senior Cup.

Holbeach and Yaxley clash at Carter’s Park in a Premier Division game next Wednesday (January 7).
