New manager Rayment brings striker Miller back to Spalding

NEW chief Pat Rayment has made an instant impact by bringing striker Ricky Miller back to Spalding.

The livewire frontman is Rayment’s first signing since succeeding Andy Stanhope in the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field hotseat and he is set to play when the Tulips visit table-toppers King’s Lynn tomorrow.

“It’s a signing that really excites me - and hopefully it will have the same effect on the fans,” said Rayment.

“Ricky is a quality player, someone who can score goals and create them. He has proved that at higher levels than this and we’re over the moon to get him back to the club.”

Miller, who has been out of the game for several weeks following a spell at Wealdstone, shone for Spalding in the 2008-09 campaign when they played at Evo-Stik Division One level.

Rayment has tempted wideman Daniel French back to the club after departing before Christmas and is also chasing another winger, Boston Town’s Shane Clancy.

But Sleaford forward Liam Tunstall has shunned Rayment’s advances and Deeping manager Tuncay Korkmaz expects Spencer Tinkler to shun an offer to join Spalding. Korkmaz is also confident of keeping hold of utlity man Kev Gilbert who is a target for lowly Yaxley.

Deeping host Irchester tomorrow and are under orders to bounce back from their 4-1 drubbing at bottom side Desborough last weekend.

Tomorrow it is struggling Yaxley’s turn to face Desborough in a crunch basement battle at In2itive Park. The Cuckoos are a point from safety and four points clear of their visitors in the race to escape the drop.

Elsewhere Blackstones entertain AFC Kempston Rovers and Holbeach go to Daventry United.

It’s derby day for table-topping Huntingdon in Division One at Eynesbury.

Stamford hit the road to Kidsgrove in Evo-Stik Division One South.
