New Peterborough Sports managerJimmy Dean is demanding an immediate promotion.

Dean certainly hasn’t been hanging around in the close season as he’s secured the signatures of seven new players as Sports prepare for a tilt at promotion from Division One of the United Counties League.

Some, like former Peterborough Northern Star pair Jordan MacLeod and Avelino Vieira and ex-Yaxley star David Cobb, have been successful at a higher level, as Dean has taken full advantage of contacts garnered from over a decade playing at a strong non-league level.

“Promotion is our aim,” Dean insisted. “And we have shown our intent already by signing some good quality players.

“Some of the ones we have picked up have played successfully at a higher level and some are doing me a favour, but all have a point to prove as well.

“We won’t be over-confident as you never know what the other clubs have been doing, but I am very happy with the way my squad is shaping up.”

Dean intends to play and manage. He will be assisted by former Posh player Chris Plummer, who was first-team boss last season when Sports finished in a slightly disappointing fifth place.

Sports have lost ace midfielder Jonny Stead to Yaxley, one of five high-class captures for the Premier Division Cuckoos since the end of last season.

Wisbech Town look set for a season of struggle. They lost manager Dick Creasey and star players Josh Ford and Adam Millson this week amid rumours of drastic budget cuts.

Ford moved to Premier Division rivals Holbeach and The Tigers are also interested in taking Tommy Treacher, Steven Reid and Luke Wilson from the Fenmen.

Peterborough Premier Division side Stilton United are searching for a new manager.
