Ideal Holmes at Stamford should give the fans a lift

STAMFORD manager Tommy Brookbanks reckons his latest signing will wow the Daniels faithful.

Brookbanks has snapped up midfield talent Jared Holmes who goes straight into his squad for a crunch Evo-Stik Division One South promotion clash against Sheffield FC at the Premier Kitchens Arena tonight.

Holmes has played for the Stamford chief at former clubs Carlton and Hucknall and big things are expected of him here.

Brookbanks said: “I know Jared well and know all about the quality he will bring to the table.

“He is a real talent in midfield and he will certainly excite the fans with the things he can do.

“I’m really happy with the squad now and feel we have every base covered.”

Holmes and new defensive recruit Dean Whiley will both be in the Daniels squad for what Brookbanks expects to be a high-class contest tonight between two play-off chasing teams who pride themselves on playing attacking football.

Stamford are hopeful of attracting a season’s best attendance of 300-plus for a match which marks the start of a hectic two-month run-in that will hopefully culminate in a play-off campaign.

Brookbanks added: “Sheffield are a lot like us in they are very good going forward, so I’m expecting an entertaining game.

“Hopefully we can attract a decent crowd and put on the sort of performance that might tempt any occasional fans back in the future.

“It’s a big game in terms of the play-off picture and we can expect plenty more of those in the weeks ahead, but I feel sure we have a squad capable of getting there.”

Stamford are again offering reduced admission to Posh season-ticket holders tomorrow.

They can gain entry for £6 (adults) and £4 (concessions) upon production of their season-ticket.

Stamford defender Miles Chamberlain is to play for Eastwood Town tomorrow as he builds up his fitness following injury.
