Gibbs grabs goals as Star storm to cup win

NON-LEAGUE: Northern Star kept their hopes of a cup double alive last night.

The holders cruised into the quarter-finals of the United Counties League Cup when overcoming lower-level visitors Potton 3-0 at Chestnut Avenue.

All the goals arrived in the first half with Karl Gibbs striking twice and Avelino Vieira hitting the other as the city men advanced to the quarter-finals. Star are also through to the fifth round of the FA Vase.

Deeping pocketed a UCL Premier Division point following a 1-1 draw against St Ives in frosty Outgang Road conditions.

The visitors hit the front early on courtesy of star striker Conor Washington but Josh Moreman levelled when his speculative shot crept in midway through the first half.
