Wisbech Town made it four straight wins in the United Counties Premier Division with a 2-0 success at Sleaford last night (February 3).

Tommy Treacher and Steven Reid scored the goals in the first-half for the fourth-placed Fenmen who are now 13 points off top spot, but with four matches in hand on leaders Rushden & Diamonds.

Treacher and Billy Smith both hit the woodwork after the break for a dominant Wisbech side. Sleaford’s chances of a comeback were shattered by a red card early in the second-half.

Second-placed Yaxley’s opportunity to close the gap on Rushden was dashed by the weather as their home game with lowly Harrowby failed a mid-afternoon pitch inspection as did Peterborough Northern Star’s Northants Cup semi-final with Corby and Blackstone’s United Counties Division One match at Raunds.

Stamford did play and again failed to end their Zeeco Stadium jinx in the Northern Premier Division. The Daniels haven’t won a home league game at their new stadium and they went down 2-1 to a late winner at the hands of Halesowen last night. Jordan Smith had equalised for Stamford early in the second half.

Huntingdon and Deeping Rangers are in competitive action tonight (February 4, 7.45pm kick-offs).
