Holders Stamford bowed out of the Lincs Senior Trophy at the hands of higher-level Gainsborough Trinity last night (July 21).

The Daniels, who were bidding for a hat-trick of wins in the competition, were unlucky losers in this second round tie, conceding a late penalty equaliser before losing the subsequent penalty shoot-out 3-1.

Stamford had dominated most of the game and deservedly took the lead in the first-half at the Zeeco Stadium through a Jon Challinor header from a David Bell cross and went on to win the corner count 10-0 and the shots on target count 7-2.

But Gainsborough survived and were awarded a second half penalty for a harsh handball decision.
