Brookbanks believes double signing will boost Daniels’ play-off bid
STAMFORD chief Tommy Brookbanks is thrilled with a double signing to pep up the club’s promotion bid.
Brookbanks has snapped up attacking midfielder Chris Cox and striker Scott Mooney on the eve of two crunch clashes against fellow high-flyers. They host Brookbanks’ former club Carlton tomorrow and then visit Sheffield FC on Tuesday.
The Daniels have received international clearance to field Cox who has spent the last few years playing in America one level below the MLS.
He showed his class with a hat-trick in a midweek friendly win over Nottinghamshire side Radford while former England C international Mooney has joined from Division One South rivals Loughborough Dynamo.
Brookbanks said: “Chris has been back over here for a few months and has been keeping himself fit.
“We’ve been working hard to get the international clearance sorted and that’s now come through so he can go into the squad for tomorrow’s game.
“And we’re delighted to get Scott on board as well. They are two good players who will give us a boost at just the right time in the season.
“We need to get back to winning football matches and I feel sure they’ll help us do that.”
Brookbanks’ men have won just one of their last eight matches and he insists there will be no room for sentiment when Carlton roll into the Premier Kitchens Arena tomorrow.
He spent 14 happy years there until moving on to Hucknall in the summer of 2010, but he is only interested in coming out on top in a ‘must-win’ match.
Brookbanks said: “I always say that the only time I want to see Carlton lose is when they come up against my team and I know the Carlton chairman Mick Garton feels the same about me.
“I’m sure I’ll have a nice drink with the Carlton people afterwards, but it is all about business first and for us that means getting the win we need.
“Carlton and Sheffield are two big games and we need to be picking up points to keep ourselves in the play-off places.”
Stamford midfielder Andy Toyne and utility man Stuart King have joined Division One South rivals Rainworth for a fortnight.
Teams playing at this level can’t officially loan each other players but the two will return to Stamford as part of a gentleman’s agreement at the end of the month.
Stamford are anticipating a large crowd tomorrow and are again offering discounted admission to Posh season-ticket holders.
They can get in for £6 (for adults) and £4 (for concessions) upon production of their season-ticket books.
