Bourne boss is proud after draw

CHROMASPORT & TROPHIES UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE

Division One

HARBOROUGH 0

BOURNE 0

WAKES chief Darren Munton was left oozing pride as his patched-up side held leaders Harborough in a Friday night fixture.

Munton included four reserve players in his travelling party to Leicestershire and they rose to the occasion in fine style.

Bourne could even have snatched maximum points with Seb Hood being denied by a fine save in the first half and both Josh Kamau and Dan Jarman going close after the break. Jarman, who was the club’s first-choice goalkeeper until recently, had been sent on as an outfield substitute.

Munton said: “We gave a terrific account of ourselves and Harborough were very complimentary afterwards, which was good to hear.”

Bourne: Gilson, Elger, Cardall, Hood (Holdup), Smith, Jesson, Dunn, Lambie, Kamau (Jarman), Brockbank (McKenzie), Spearink.

League Cup Second round

HOLBEACH 1

WOOTTON 0

HOLBEACH set up a mouthwatering revenge mission against local rivals Deeping thanks to this victory.

Strike ace Ash Stevens finally broke the stubborn resistance of lower-level visitors Wootton when heading the only goal from a Dan Flack delivery just before the hour.

And his effort means the Tigers will have the chance to avenge an FA Vase exit at the hands of Rangers earlier in the season.

Boss John Chand said: “Wootton might as well have parked their bus in front of the goal.

“They played five at the back, slung five across midfield and didn’t have anyone up front as far as I could tell. I can only assume they were playing for penalties right from the first whistle.

“It didn’t make for the best game but we got through it and we should have a cracking tie against Deeping in the next round.”

Leon Kita made his Holbeach debut as a second-half substitute. He’s a Boston-based midfielder who has most recently played in America.

Holbeach: Overton, Allen, Jackson, Brown (Tidswell), J. Stevens, Flack, Kennedy, Brooks (Kita), Griffiths, Treacher, Stevens. Unused: Newton, Elston.

Postponed matches:

Evo-Stik Division One South – Stamford v Carlton.

Ridgeons Premier Division – Wisbech v Gorleston.
