New boss Ferguson is from a family full of winners

NEW Posh manager Darren Ferguson is a winner from a family of winners.

NEW Posh manager Darren Ferguson is a winner from a family of winners.Dad Sir Alex needs no introduction, brother Jason is a successful businessman, while Darren himself is regarded as one of the best midfielders in the lower divisions.

Darren has no management experience, but he's been preparing for the moment he followed his father into the hardest job in football for years.

His appointment may have been a shock to Posh followers who had been spoon-fed rumours of experienced, big-named managers, but he has instantly adopted chairman Darragh Macanthony's mantra of speedy success.

Darren, speaking before he watched the latest Posh horror show on Saturday, said: "I'm sick of League Two football and I want to get out of this division as quickly as possible.

"I've played at this level for many years so I know what to expect. I have also played against Peterborough many times so I know they are a club with potential which is why I am delighted to come here to start my managerial career.

"I've been completing my coaching badges for three years now and I have a clear idea of the way I want to play football. I'm excited about the opportunity.

"I instantly hit it off with the chairman. He's a young, ambitious man and so am I.

"He has some great plans for the club and I am thrilled to bits that he thinks I am the man to help take the club forward."

Naturally the appointment of Fergie junior will lead to speculation that a host of Manchester United players might be on the way to London Road.

Darren admits that he spoke to his father before taking the Posh job on, but every current player at the club will get the chance to prove his worth.

Darren added: "Of course I spoke to my father about the job, I'd be stupid not to, and of course he will always be on hand with advice.

"The team has been struggling lately, but it wasn't so long ago that they were riding high so there's plenty of good players for us to work with.

"I met them before the game on Saturday, but I will set out my ideas to them next week and we'll get on with it.

"I hope they respond because I am a winner who loves nothing better than winning football matches. I have been given a wonderful opportunity and I don't intend to waste it."
