Youth football: At last! Bourne end their long losing run

UNDER 18: ONE of the worst runs in local football came to an end on Sunday when Bourne beat Ketton 4-2.

After reaching the heights of the Division One championship Bourne have suffered a severe dip in fortunes over recent seasons and have failed to win a league game in over 18 months.

But goals from Jack Wheatley, Ashley Firth, Liam Cummings and Dan Lovesey saw them shake the monkey off their backs at last against Ketton.

Club secretary Chris Rimmington said: “We have not won a league game since May 2010 when we beat Blackstones so it was great to finally get a result, the boys really deserved it.

“They have not become a bad side but for one reason or another results have not gone their way over the last couple of seasons but hopefully this result can change that.

“Strangely enough they have always done well in the cups during that time. We got to the semis of the PFA Cup last season and we are through to that stage again - although we have a really tough task playing Wisbech St Mary Purple but we will give it our best shot.”

AMAR Zamir delivered a five-star show as Netherton Kestrels underlined their title credentials by hammering Northern Star 11-2.

Zamir scored five goals while Rhys Howden also tucked into the Division One goal-feast after hitting the back of the Star net four times. Shane Cooke and Louis Hemming were also on target for the Kestrels.

GLINTON became the first team this season to beat Deeping Claret after emerging from a top-of-the- table Division Two clash 4-1 winners.

After taking the lead through Harry Hinks and a penalty from Greg Dunn, the Clarets struck back just before half time when Tom Webb scored with a free kick.

But Glinton re-asserted themselves against the leaders in the second half and made sure of the points with goals from Sam Willatt and Jack Davenport.

Manager Peter Rice said: “We were really pleased with the win. I don’t think in all our years playing Deeping we have beaten them so it was a great effort and a really good performance from the whole team.

“We have some tough games coming up over the next few weeks now but we are right up for it now.”
