Northants Under 18s, boosted by five Peterborough Northern Star players, are one good result away from a semi-final spot in the Midlands Counties Youth Championships.

Northants enjoyed an outstanding 4-0 win at Shropshire at Market Drayton last weekend.

They now need to take a point from their final game with third place Nottinghamshire at Bugbrooke St Michael on February 8 to seal a last-four slot for the second successive season.

Harley Williams, James Hill-Seekings, Joe Kelly, Mathew Ilsley and Sean Roberts were the five Northern Star youngsters in the squad.

Williams, who plays for Bourne in United Counties Division One, but is a star of the Northern Star Under 18 side, opened the scoring in the second minute in Shropshire.

Hill-Seekings then added a second goal just past the half-hour after a fine back-heeled pass from Kelly.

Omar Ghavani (Wellingborough Whitworths) and Danny Powell (unattached) completed the scoring.

Northants had earlier in the season beaten Derbyshire 2-0 before losing to Hunts 6-3 in a match played at St Neots FC.

Hunts are top of the table with three wins out of three. Their goalscorers against Northants were Nathan George, Ebey Marango, Ryan Wood, Ryan Vale and an own goal.

Hill-Seekings, who is attached to the Coates sAthletic senior side, scored twice for Northants and Williams also netted.

Hill-Seekings also bagged a brace against Derbyshire to make it five goals in three matches.

Northern Star Under 18s, managed by former Posh player Domenico Genovese, are currently unbeaten in the Thurlow Nunn Youth League (West Division) with four wins and a draw from their five fixtures.

Williams and Hill-Seekings are the main men in that team.

Williams has five goals in four matches, while Hill-Seekings has five goals from five appearances.

Star are due to play March Town tonight at Chestnut Avenue (7.45pm kick-off).

Star were last in action on January 5 when goals from Williams, Ilsey, Hill-Seekings and Bobby Bick scored the goals in a 4-0 win against St Ives.
