UNDER 15: DEEPING are still in the shake-up for their first-ever top-flight league title after battling back to draw 3-3 against Leverington White.
The reigning Division One champions took the lead on three seperate occasions at Outgang Road through Matthew Cousins (2) and Joe Mummery but Deeping fought back each time to claim a draw thanks to goals from Ben Aspinall (2) and David Stevenette.
A win would have taken the Lincolnshire side two points clear at the top of Division One but a point keeps Nigel Reeve’s side right in the frame.
He said: “When we played at their place and ended up with a draw we counted ourselves unlucky not to get a win but this time I think it was the other way round.
“We were probably fortunate to come away with a point but that’s the way football is sometimes - these things balance out.
“I wouldn’t say we are anything like favourites to win our first title though. We are probably an outside bet but we have a chance.
“I think Leverington, Woodston and Netherton could all lose points to one another which might leave us with a chance. And if we don’t win the league I think we will have a big say in who does.”
WOODSTON’S bid to recapture their top-flight crown hit a snag when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Glinton.
Joe Bull scored for the three-time Hunts Cup winners at Arthur Mellows Village College but a goal from Isaac Seekings saw the home side snatch a point.
PARKSIDE boss Neil Shayler may have spent most of Christmas in bed with a virus but his team looked in rude health against Eye as they won 4-1.
Despite a near month-long lay-off from competitive football, strikes from Arthur Tumbare, Reece Goddon, Reece Walker and Charlie Bosett saw the Division Two title favourites blow away the cobwebs in style.
There was even a goal of the season contender from Parkside defender Ty Brundell who scored from 40 yards - albeit into the back of his own net.
Shayler said: “I had a pretty rough Christmas personally but the lay-off clearly did the boys no harm at all and they got back to winning ways on Sunday.
“It was a solid performance and I don’t think I have ever seen a better own goal in my life. Ty was under pressure and decided to clear the danger towards his own goal but instead of it going out for a corner, it flew straight into the top corner of the net. I doubt he will score a better goal - it was so good it got a cheer from both sets of fans.”
Parkside are next in league action on Sunday when they take on league leaders Whittlesey who beat Blackstones 7-0.
Aaron Dunmore netted a hat-trick while Liam Monk (2), Lucas Bibb and Dylan Warrener were the other scorers for Whittlesey.
IN Division Three, Gunthorpe Sky remain level on points with Wimblington at the top of the table after a 4-0 against Whittlesey B.
Sam Miller (2), Luke Woods and Ryan Humphreys were the lads on target for the Gunners.
