Youth football: Oundle’ssurvivalhopes get a boost

UNDER 16: OUNDLE boss Nigel Fox believes four more wins will guarantee his side’s top-flight survival.

Goals from Sam Munford, Tom Burton, Joseph Hamm, Michael Baker and Jacob Costello saw Oundle chalk up their first league win of the season as Glinton Orange were squeezed out 5-1.

Now with three points in the bag, Fox is confident his side can secure the results they need to avoid the dreaded drop.

He said: “We were 5-0 up in the first half after playing some good football and I thought we were even better after the break without scoring again. We haven’t played that many league games but it was still important that we got that first win sooner rather than later.

“It moves us off the bottom for the first time and I reckon that if we can win four more games we should be safe - that is our target between now and the end of the season.”

DANIEL Godward scored the only goal of the game as Sawtry hauled themselves off the bottom of Division Two by beating Woodston 1-0.

KETTON will need a few favours if they are going to get their hands on the Division Three title.

Nathan Wilson, Scott Chamberlain and Ash Townsend all hit the back of the net in a 3-1 win against Bourne that keeps the village side ahead of Stamford on goal difference.

But with Stamford holding a game in hand, Ketton boss Dave Bird can only hope their title rivals slip up between now and the end of the seaosn.

He said: “We have Coates, Richard Scott Soccer School and Ryhall to finish our season and they are three winnable games for us. But even if we do get nine points we have to hope someone can do us a favour by beating Stamford.

“It could happen as there are some good teams in this league like Bourne. They gave us a real run around and at times totally out-passed us so we were pleased to come away from that game with the win.”

JACK Blackbird and Daniel Powell were both on target as Netherton booked their place in the League KO Cup final by beating Hungate 2-0.

Blackbird and Powell stole the headlines but goalkeeper Kane Davies also had a great game with another clean sheet meaning he is yet to concede a goal this season.

Deeping and Yaxley meet in the other semi-final this weekend.

DIVISION One Holbeach were given a real run for their money after being taken all the way to penalties by Stamford in the Lincs Cup.

After being held to a 0-0 draw after extra-time by their Division Three opponents, Holbeach just managed to edge their way into the third round with a 6-5 win on penalties.

In the Hunts Cup, Sawtry Yellow booked their place in the third round after beating Farcet 4-1 through goals by Tobi Allen (2), Ben Moore and Curtis Rawlings.
