Youth football: McLeod hits wonder goal for Netherton
Deeping U16's v Yaxley U16's League Cup semi final action at Outgang Road
UNDER 16: JORDAN McLeod brought the curtain down in style as Netherton overcame Hungate in a Division one top-of-the table clash.
After opening the scoring, McLeod had the last word when his terrific 25-yard free-kick thundered into the top corner to make it 4-0.
Nathan Parillon and Harvey Ristevski-Green were also on target for the reigning champions who strolled out easy winners against the only side to have taken points off them this season.
Manager Stephen Powell said: “If Messi had scored the kind of goal that Jordan managed on Sunday everyone would be raving about it. It was a terrific strike from 25 yards that just flew into the top corner - I have not seen too many like it.
“He opened up with a free-kick too so he obviously had his eye in on Sunday. To be fair to Hungate they were missing a few players but it was still a very good win for us as they are up there with us in the table. We just need to keep it all going now. We are playing some really good football and go into every game with a lot of confidence.”
TWO goals for Tom Coote saw Holbeach sneak into second place after they beat Oundle 2-1.
Jacob Costello scored for Oundle but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Tigers clawing out the result to stay in touch with the Division One leaders.
WOODSTON showed just what they can do at full strenth by toppling Whittlesey 3-2.
Having lost to Sawtry with eight men in their previous outing, goals for Matthew Elderkin, Hayden Snart and Jake Pearson saw the city side deal a blow to their opponents’ Division Two title hopes.
Woodston boss Kevin Pywell said: “I said before the game I thought we would beat them and the boys went out and proved me right.
“We were gutted to only have eight men against Sawtry but we were back at full strength and we showed what we are capable of.
“We have a few new lads in and are getting more of a settled side together but I think it has all come a bit late for us this season. If the season started at Christmas I think we would have been title contenders ourselves.”
KETTON became the latest team to run up a cricket score against Coates as they beat the Division Three basement boys 26-0.
Facing an understrength Coates side, even Ketton goalkeeper George Winters got his name on the scoreheet as the leaders ran riot against seven men.
Lewis Morley led the rout with five goals and Tyler Sculthorpe, Nathan Wilson and Bradley Freeman all scored hat-tricks. Nick Mainstone (2), Matthew Sewell (2), Scott Chamberlain (2), Jonny Cole, Harrison Miles, Jonny Weaver, Jack Wright and Connor Breakwell were Ketton’s other scorers.
The only member of the Ketton squad who didn’t get in on the act was Ashley Townsend. Townsend did get the ball in the back of the net but it was small mercy for Coates that his effort was ruled out for offside.
MATT Jarvis was the hero of the hour as Deeping Rangers beat Yaxley to book their place in the League Cup final. Jarvis scored the only goal in a 1-0 win against the holders - Rangers will now play Netherton in the final.
