WOODSTON bounced straight back to winning ways to secure their place in the Hunts County Cup final for the fourth year in a row.
The three-time county cup kings shrugged off the disappointment of losing their League Cup semi-final to Parkside by sinking St Ives 2-0 thanks to a couple of spectacular goals from Levi Boister and Callum Avent.
Manager Terry Avent said: “We were really up for that game and of course we are buzzing to be back in the final especially to win the game with a pair of cracking goals.
“This competition has been great to us down the years and we really have to fancy our chances against Godmanchester.
“But as we well know it is all about performing on the day.”
n GLINTON have kept the devil from the door by easing their relegation fears with a 3-2 win against Hampton.
In a lively tussle between the two sides Matt Coombe and Tom Morley netted for Hampton, but two goals for Anthony Garmory and one for Syzmon Ratynski saw Glinton home.
The win moves Glinton five points clear of the bottom two places and manager Tommy Neaverson is confident his upwardly mobile side has what it takes to climb to safety.
He said: “We have brought in Sam Taylor from Eye who has really helped shore up our defence and he made a big difference on Sunday. But the whole team put in a lot of effort to secure a really important result for us.
“We are now on a little unbeaten run in 2012 and if we can keep that going there are enough games left for us to secure mid-table spot.”
n DEEPING Rangers returned to the top of the Division One standings after chalking up their biggest win of the season against Spalding.
Benjamin Aspinall scored five of the goals while Sam Makepeace-Beach (2). Alex Metcalf, Alex Lowe-Lauri and Owen Skinner got the others in a 10-0 romp for Deeping.
Manager Nigel Reeve said: “It was a routine win but the pleasing thing was we didn’t stop playing football when the goals starting going in. In those situations it can become a bit sloppy but we kept at it and put in a very polished performance.”
n THERE were no surprises when Division Two leaders Whittlesey took on basement boys Mereside on Sunday.
Liam Monk, Aaron Dunmore and Liam Dunmore all scored twice while Matthew Isley got his name on the score sheet as Whittlesey waltzed to a 7-1 win.
