THREE Huntingdonshire Regional College pupils have been named in the England Colleges football team.
Max Avory, Jordan Nicholson and Jake Walton are all studying sport and exercise science at the college and have been named in the England squad for the second year running.
The England Colleges football team is the national team for college-based players and is run in partnership by British Colleges Sport and the Football Association to develop students who are combining full-time studies with playing an elite standard of football.
Although a relatively small college, Huntingdonshire continues to be remarkably successful both on and off the field. They are the reigning National Elite Colleges men’s champions (for the second year) and also National Elite Inter-Collegiate Cup champions.
Susanne Stent, principal at Huntingdonshire Regional College, said: “We have an excellent sports and exercise department which is supported by an experienced academic and coaching team.
“The college is very proud of the continued achievements of our students, and we are aiming to keep our title of national champions for a third year in 2012.”
Footballers wishing to join the academic programme should contact Huntingdonshire Regional College on 01480 379106, or contact the College through the website www.huntingdon.ac.uk.
n THE Peterborough Regional College (PRC) Football Development Centre team were in superb form when they resumed their fixtures this week after the Christmas holiday break.
Earlier in the season they were narrowly beaten at Cambridge Regional College but in the return fixture it was a totally different story as the Peterborough lads ran out whopping 11-3 winners.
PRC started off slowly, however, conceding an early goal.
But after levelling through Tom Levicki they took control and went 4-1 up through strikes by Liam McDonald, Michael Botchway and Rhys Howden.
CRC did manage to pull a goal back but for the last 15 minutes of the half relentless PRC pressure earned them four more goals and an 8-2 interval lead.
Howden completed his hat-trick. as PRC made it 9-2, Cambridge got a goal back soon after and then PRC pushed through to the finish line with goals from Josh Hutchison and Tim Lansdown.
It was an outstanding team performance which saw Connor Jackson voted man-of-the-match.
PRC scorers were: Tom Levicki, Liam McDonald (2), Michael Botchway, Sonny O’Rourke, Rhys Howden (3), Josh Hutchison (2) and Tim Lansdown.
