A Peterborough Sunday Morning League match was abandoned yesterday (November 30) after 25 minutes when a player suffered a badly broken leg.

Referee Steve Hanson called a halt to the Division Four game between Longueville FC and Railway at Bushfield after Railway’s Darren Wiles from Whittlesey was injured in a 50/50 tackle.

An ambulance was called and 25 minutes later Wiles (24) was taken to hospital where ex-rays revealed he had broken his leg in two places.

He was today undergoing surgery to have a rod inserted at Peterborough City Hospital.
