Smart finish puts the League Cup holders out

VOYAGER gained a welcome slice of revenge after they beat Netherton 1-0 to earn a place in the semi-finals of the League Cup.
After losing to Netherton in last season’s final Voyager had the chance to set the record straight on Sunday and they took full advantage.
In a tight game between two teams promoted to the top flight this season, Matt Smart settled the matter with a well-taken goal 10 minutes from time.
Netherton battled hard to find the equaliser but with the Voyager back four of Ashley Brumfield, Andrew Whitfield, Tino Freestone and Ashley Killingworth in top form, there was no way back as the holders crashed out.
Voyager boss Dave Setchfield said: “For me that was our best game of the season in terms of our passing and overall workrate.
“We know all about Netherton and what they can do but we dominated large chunks of the game and never really gave them the time to get going.
“When they did get through our defence was outstanding and it was good to see them ending with a clean sheet as we have conceded 11 goals in the last three games. But if I had to pick a man-of-the-match it would be Paul Hagan in midfield, he was outstanding.
“Now we are just looking forward to the semi-final draw. The confidence is high and I think we will give anyone a game.”
n DIVISION One champions Yaxley White chalked up their 10th straight league win by beating Corby 4-2.
Matthew Warman (2), Liam Laughton and Robert Rouse all hit the back of the Corby net to move Yaxley nine points clear of Deeping at the top of the table.
Deeping also picked up a win when they beat Bourne Blue 3-1 thanks to a double from James Hill-Seekings and one for Oakley Culverhouse.
n Wisbech St Mary stormed to the top of the Division Two table after beating Sawtry black and Blue.
Alex Albut led the rout with a hat-trick while Dom Venckus (2), Reagan Brown, Jack Witney, Ollie Potter, Tobi Woods and Shay Fairclough also got their names on the scoresheet as the the Blues were battered 10-0.
The Saints are now three points clear at the top after title rivals Rippingale and Folkingham slipped up at Stamford who upset the former league leaders with a 1-0 win.
n JACK Waghorn scored the only goal of the game as Glinton maintained their place at the top of the Division Two table by beating Eye 1-0.
