Ryan Robbins’ one-man show delivered victory for AFC Stamford at bottom-of-the-table Belper today (January 31).

Robbins scored twice and sent over the cross that was headed into his own net by a Belper defender in the Evo Stik Northern Premier Division. Robbins won the match with a last-minute penalty after he’d been fouled in the penalty area.

In the United Counties League it was a miserable day for Holbeach ahead of their big FA Vase showdown with Erith & Belvedere at Carter’s Park next Saturday (February 7). The Tigers were surprisingly beaten 3-2 at home by Cogenhoe in the United Counties Premier Division after full-back Johnny Allen suffered a broken leg early in the game.

The match was halted for 35 minutes while Allen received treatment and after the re-start goals from Jake Duffy and former Posh striker Matt Nolan couldn’t save Holbeach from defeat.

Yaxley took advantage to move into second place with a 3-1 home win over Desborough as another ex-Posh player found the back of the net. Andy Furnell struck after 15 minutes for ‘The Cuckoos’ before Rob Hughes and an own goal completed the scoring.

Yaxley are seven points behind leaders Rushden & Diamonds with a game in hand. Holbeach are a point further back, but have two games in hand on Yaxley and three games in hand on Diamonds.

Many United Counties League games were postponed, but in-form March Town recorded another handsome win in Division One of the Thurlow Nunn League.

And again it was the deadly duo of Denny Escorio and Danny Woods who inflicted the damage in a 4-1 win over Leiston Reserves. Escorio and Woods scored all five goals in a famous Cambs Invitation Cup win over Histon earlier this week (January 27) and they grabbed all four in this game with Escorio bagging a hat-trick.
