Ploughman through to Northants Shield semis

PLOUGHMAN came through their toughest test yet at the start of a sequence of season-defining matches.

The Werrington lads successfully defended their unbeaten debut-season record when advancing to the semi-finals of the Northants Sunday Shield.

Ondre Odain hit a hat-trick as they recovered from 2-1 down to beat Wellingborough All Stars 5-3 at the last-eight stage.

They now face a couple of clashes against Artemis that are likely to decide the Division Three title either side of a PFA Sunday Morning Junior Cup semi-final.

Manager Liam Robertson said: “This was the start of a run of big games and it was nice to come through it.

“We really had to knuckle down at 2-1 down and the lads showed what they are made of.

“We showed we can perform in the tough games and that’s a good sign because we have some hard ones coming up.”

Ploughman are the sole local survivors in this competition after Peterborough Sunday Afternoon League side PIS crashed out.

They were bashed 11-2 by Kettering United when fielding a depleted side.

Artemis warmed up for their big Ploughman date by breezing into the second round of the McCain Cup.

Gavin Wong led the way with a four-goal haul as they produced a slick performance to see off Jager Bombers 6-1.

James Moore struck twice as Coopers claimed a 3-1 extra-time success over Brotherhoods Works in the same competition. Harry Woodward hit their other goal.
