Peterborough League preview: Leverington player has a life ban lifted

LEVERINGTON footballer Darren Rawthorn has successfully overturned a sine die suspension.

Rawthorn had been banned by the Cambridgeshire FA following an incident in a Peterborough League Premier Division game at Oakham on December 3.

Rawthorn had been accused of spitting at the match referee - an offence which carries a charge of common assault.

The player and his club immediately insisted he was innocent of the offence and Rawthorn’s appeal has proved successful.

Leverington manager Stuart Webb said: “We are delighted for Darren but we always felt this would be the outcome.

“We have known from the moment of the incident that Darren did not spit at the referee.”

n WISBECH Town manager Steve Appleby has been fined £75 for his Boxing Day dismissal.

Appleby was sent from the dugout during the club’s Ridgeons Premier Division defeat at Ely City.

The Cambs FA have dished out the punishment and warned Appleby as to his future conduct.

March Town chairman Phil White has also been warned as to his future conduct and fined £40 for using improper or insulting behaviour towards a match official.

Other Cambs FA cases:
