Peterborough League: Billinghurst’s brilliance helps Sun shine in the Junior Cup

CHROMASPORT & TROPHIES PETERBOROUGH & DISTRICT LEAGUE: HOPES of an all-Peterborough League final in the Hunts Junior Cup were dashed on Saturday.

Huntingdon side Hartford Sun did advance to the showpiece but local lads Riverside Rovers bowed out.

Sun saw off Eaton Socon Reserves 6-0, Daniel Billinghurst helping himself to four of the goals, but Riverside came unstuck at Somersham Reserves when going down 2-1.

There will be an all-Peterborough League final in the Spalding Inter-Service Cup though. Holbeach Reserves and Long Sutton will contest that clash after easing through semi-final ties on Saturday.

Ben Crane and David Wilson notched as the Tigers second string saw off Sutton Bridge 2-0 while a Matt Cawthorn hat-trick earned Long Sutton a 3-2 win at Old Donington.

Leverington Reserves booked their place in the Cambs Junior Challenge Cup semi-finals by sinking Bottisham Sports in a nine-goal thriller.

Daniel Paynter and Mariusz Kudyba both scored twice in a 5-4 win for the Fen lads. Tancsel Ibranim hit their other goal.

Kings Cliffe held onto top spot in the Premier Division by sinking bottom side Alconbury 7-1. Gary Gibbs got five of the goals.

Langtoft went top of Division One with a 5-1 win over FC Inter while fellow promotion hopefuls Stilton slammed Warboys 9-0 with Richard Baines striking four times.

Ryhall edged out Castor & Ailsworth in a battle of the Division Two titans. Jonathan Hewing and Phil Bartlett notched in a 2-1 success that pulls them to within two points of their table-topping victims.

Whittlesey Reserves climbed off the bottom of the Division Three table.

Gavin Barker and Sam Moakes both bagged braces as they triumphed 5-2 at Crowland Reserves to grab just their second win of the season.

Baston went second in Division Four with a 2-1 win at Coates Reserves while Riverside Reserves remain clear of the chasing pack in Division Five after Pep Schiorlin (2), Cory Rose and Stuart Costello earned them a 4-0 win at the Sutton Bridge second string.
