Peterborough Sports increased their lead at the top of Division One in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League to seven points by winning 5-1 at Oakham last night (November 4).
The victory made it 12 wins from 12 games for the high-flying city side.
Striker Karl Gibbs gave the table-toppers the lead 10 minutes in and Avelino Vieira doubled the Sports advantage two minutes after the half-hour mark.
Just before the break Jordan Macleod made it 3-0 and second-half goals came from Gibbs and Jake Sansby.
Ben Easson scored an 89th minute Oakham consolation from the penalty spot.
In the Premier Division, Holbeach beat Deeping Rangers 3-1 at Carter’s Park to move into second place.
Jordan Thomas fired the Tigers ahead on 18 minutes and two minutes later Jake Clitheroe made it 2-0. Both goals were set up by Andrew Tidswell.
Deeping were back in the game after 81 minutes when a jinking run from Scott Coupland saw him pull the ball back for Jezz Goldson-Williams to fire home.
Three minutes later the outcome was settled as Jack Cotton’s slip allowed Clitheroe in behind to drill a low shot into the far corner.
