Netherton United manager Jon Harrison insists he’s completed some astute summer business.
The city’s best hope of Peterborough Premier Division success - Whittlesey Athletic are regarded as warm title favourites - have recruited centre-back Chris Kaye from ICA Sports and winger Tom Flatters from March.
Just as importantly Harrison believes he has kept hold of his best young talents, with the exception of midfielder Harry Fitzjohn who has joined United Counties Premier Division side Peterborough Northern Star.
“Signing Chris Kaye was massive for me,” Harrison stated. “He is a great leader of a team and I can now play him at the back with Chris Hansford and move Ben Daly into midfield.
“Tom Flatters is a tricky winger and we will also have Erik Makete full-time this season, while Lee Clemenson should be fit enough to play more regularly.
“Clubs have been sniffing around Jake Sansby, but I’m confident he will stay so I’m very happy where we are as a club.
“We’ve been training well since June 13 and we have some terrific friendlies lined up that will really test us.”
Netherton travel to fellow Premier Division side Langtoft on Saturday for a frendly and then host UCL Division One side Blackstones on Tuesday (July 7, 8.05pm) at the Grange.
They also have pre-season matches lined up against UCL sides Deeping and PSL and they will play last season’s Premier Division champions Oakham in the opening round of the Hinchingbrooke Cup.
Netherton open their Premier Division campaign at newly-promoted Ketton on Saturday, August 1.
Peterborough League top flight side ICA travel to Peterborough Northern Star for a friendly this Saturday.
