Peterborough Sports A secured the first part of a possible trophy treble when lifting the Northants Area Cup.
The city side thumped Northampton Mereway 6-1 in the final at Raunds with Vaidas Macianskis claiming a hat-trick. Lee Defraine scored twice and Simon Patterson completed the scoring late on.
“The scoreline probably flattered us as they were pretty good,” admitted Sports boss Ian McIntosh.
“It was a battle and it was 1-1 until near half-time. We scored either side of the break though and the third goal killed them off. It was a fantastic result and now we’re after the league title and the Intermediate Shield.”
Sports were nine points clear at the top of Peterborough League Division Three ahead of last night’s game at fourth-placed Glinton & Northborough.
Macianskis was again on target in last Saturday’s 3-1 win at Uppingham Reserves. Gareth Copland scored the other two goals.
