Peterborough Northern Star last night (April 29) were crowned East Midlands Premier League champions.
The city side clinched the title without kicking a ball as nearest rivals Nettleham Ladies failed to get the win they needed at Long Eaton to pip Star to the championship.
The majority of the Star team along with boss Steve Iredale and co-assistant Kenzie Bryne made the journey to Long Eaton to watch the game, which ended all square at 1-1.
“It was probably the longest 90 minutes of my life,” said Iredale. “I fancied Long Eaton to raise their game for the fixture and they did more than that. They were really up for it!”
Star will next season play their football in the Midlands Ladies Championship but before that they have the chance of doing the double as they meet Nettleham in the League Cup final on May 10.
