Kilbride is hoping he doesn’t lose his England place
FUTSAL internatioanal Jason Kilbride is praying a recent injury doesn’t cost him his place in the England squad.
The local star sustained an ankle problem at a recent England training camp which ruled him out of a trip to France for two international clashes.
It also stopped a fine run of goalscoring form a little closer to home for Bourne Town in the 11-a-side game.
But the 23 year-old is now fit and raring to go again and is determined to return to the national fold for two March clashes against Switzerland.
Kilbride said: “I was absolutely gutted when the injury occurred and knew straight away that I’d miss the France games.
“It was hard not being there and when it came to game time I was on my phone texting the physio for score updates.
“I’ve had ankle problems in the past but they’ve never been as painful as this. I’ve followed my rehabilitation plan and all being well I’ll be available for the next training camp.
“Whether I’ll be selected though is another thing because we have such a talented bunch of lads in and around the squad nowadays.”
Kilbride plays his club Futsal for Loughborough after moving from Middlesbrough ahead of the current season.
He also plays for Teesside University who are through to the British Universities & Colleges Sport National Finals.
Kilbride believes the game of Futsal is going from strength to strength. He added: “Things are progressing nicely.
“Both the leagues in this country and the national set-up is coming along nicely.
“We have players playing in good competitive leagues week in week out now and that is only going to be good for the game.
“Already we are showing signs that we can mix it with some very good European sides internationally.”
