Junior football: Roman ruins semi-final for Yaxley Blue
UNDER 12: ROMAN Paterson bagged a hat-trick as Hampton Reds booked their place in the final of the Hunts Cup by beating Yaxley Blue 4-0.
Despite a lengthy lay-off, the rampant Reds had far too much for Division Two outfit Yaxley. They also had Niall Burnage on target.
Hampton will face Ramsey Colts in the final after they beat Yaxley Lynx 3-1 in the other last-four clash. But despite the obvious distraction of reaching their first county showpiece, Hampton boss Mark Sansby is determined his players don’t lose focus on their flawless league campaign.
He said: “It was a great team effort and every player did their bit. Now I want them to put the final to the back of their minds and concentrate on keeping the 100 per cent record in the league.”
There was good news for the other local sides in county cup action too.
Two goals for Dominic Bevilacqua helped Eye book a place in the quarter-finals of the Northants Cup with a 3-1 win at Wellingborough, while Jack Baker scored as Deeping beat Bourne 1-0 in a Lincs Cup quarter-final.
Wisbech St Mary Yellow moved back to the top of Division Two by beating Oundle 7-0. Ben and Jack Gale led the way with two goals apiece.
