UNDER 11: NORTHERN Star Blue pressed on with their three-pronged trophy assault with a 5-1 win at Yaxley.

Ethan Atkins and Alfie Ferguson both netted twice while Cameron Manton also got involved with the scoring as Star shone in tough conditions.

The win keeps Elio Salerno’s side right in the thick of the Division One title shake-up, just two points behind leaders Deeping Claret with two games in hand.

And with a PFA Cup semi final and League Cup quarter-final to look forward to, Salerno’s stars still have an outside shot at the treble.

Salerno said: “We did really well at Yaxley and I was very pleased to have another three points in the bag. Ethan’s goal that made it 4-0 just after half-time was a cracking strike from 20 yards and a great effort considering how poor the weather was on Sunday.

“In the league we are in a great position where everything is in our hands still and I think we will definitely be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

“And with those big cup games to look forward to, we have everthing to play for.”

NETHERTON kept their own Division One title hopes alive with a 3-2 win against in-form Glinton Red.

In a cracking game Matthew Sedgwick and Oliver Wilson both netted for the Reds, but a double from Alex Moroz and one from Cain Martin ensured Netherton emerged with the spoils.

Manager Simon Wright said: “We knew it would be a tough game as Glinton have been playing well lately but the lads did me proud.

“Every single member of the squad played their part on Sunday and helped produce a terrific performance.”

DEEPING Blue made it a perfect 10 as their grip on the Division Two crown tightened.

Oliver Piddington and Tom Baxter scored the goals as Gunthorpe were beaten 2-0 to send the Blues six points clear at the top of the table after their 10th straight win of the campaign.

Rippingale and Folkingham are the only team with a realistic chance of stopping Deeping’s march. They won 4-2 at Bourne with goals from Jack Friend (2), Thomas Green and Connor Flight.

STEWART Barrand scored twice as Powerleague extended their own awesome run in Division Three to nine wins from nine games by beating Thorpe Wood Blue 5-1.

In the league below Leverington have stacked up an even more impressive run of results after their 6-0 win over Thorpe Wood Claret made it 14 wins from 14 league games so far this term.

Leoun Savage led the way with two and there were also goals for Tommy Wiles, Lewis Sterne, Liam Dennis and James Towson.
