Junior football: Hampton hit back to keep fine run going

UNDER 12: HAMPTON Red extended their flawless top flight record but they did it the hard way against Pinchbeck.

After a goalless first half, Pinchbeck drew first blood when Jacko Withers was allowed to stroll through the Hampton defence to fire his team in front.

But within less than two minutes Hampton were back on terms when Roman Paterson scored a spectacular overhead kick to make it 1-1. It was a superb strike but Pinchbeck should have re-taken the lead after they were awarded a penalty.

However, a great save from Alex Janson kept his side on level terms and Calum Cooke made the most of it when he put the visitors ahead for the first time.

Hampton then killed off their hosts with five minutes to go when Jack Fryett bundled the ball over the line to put the Reds 3-1 up and seal their seventh straight win.

Manager Mark Sansby said: “I am really happy with the result but we need to improve our performances if we want to maintain this great start to the season.

“To be top of the league with a game in hand is a brilliant accomplishment with the quality of the teams in this league.”

NETHERTON Falcons took the honours when they took on stablemates Netherton Bluejays.

Samir Hansraj netted for the Bluejays but goals frrom Aiden Bishop, Aaron Fife, Thomas Sanderson and George Drummond saw the Falcons cruise to a comfortable 4-1 derby win.

JORDAN Harris netted a hat-trick as Yaxley Blue battled back to beat Woodston 7-4.

Despite falling behind twice in the game, the Blues came through thanks to Harris’ treble and goals from Grant Tippett (2), Lewis Wright and Daniel Milner.

Manager Gavin Fulcher said: “It was tough for us in the first half as we were playing into the wind. We went a couple down, pulled it back to 2-2 and then conceded another so we were in a bit of bother at half-time.

“But with the wind in our favour after the break we were a lot better and put in a really good performance to deservedly take the three points.”

WISBECH St Mary closed the gap at the top of the Division Three table by beating Werrington 3-1.

With leaders Ryhall not in action, goals for Terry Foster (2) and Terry Wilmott saw the Saints march past Leverington and into second place.

Manager Nigel Dennis said: “We have got a couple of games in hand over Ryhall so I am feeling pretty confident that we can catch them and overtake them before the end of the season, especially as our goal difference is better than theirs.

“The key for us will be the game against them. It could well end up deciding who wins the title so we are lookiing for to it.”
