Junior football: The Navy are sailing towards the title

UNDER 10: GUNTHORPE Navy moved to within touching distance of the White Zone title after beating Riverside White 3-2.

The Blue Zone champions now need just six points from their last four games to guarantee success, but they didn’t have things all their own way against Riverside.

A superb first half saw the visitors storm into a 2-0 lead by half-time thanks to a pair of goals from David Silva.

But after a talking to from manager Craig Britton and a few tactical tweaks for the second half, Gunthorpe came out all guns blazing with goals from Tom Game (2) and Ben Perry securing the points.

Now if Gunthorpe can beat Deeping on Saturday and get something from their match with Wasps they will be guaranteed the title.

Britton said: “We were poor in the first half but fair play to Riverside, they made it very hard for us.

“But we changed it round a bit for the second half and really got stuck into them to get the win.

”It was a cracking turnaround and shows the boys deserve to be where they are this season.

“To guarantee the title we need six points but if we win our next game and draw with Wasps, it’s ours.”

BOURNE Claret kept their White Zone title championship hopes alive with a 5-2 win against Gunthorpe Sky. Ted Holliday hit a hat-trick and Tim Worgan got the other two for the Clarets who are now just two points behind leaders Arsenal Soccer School.
