Junior football: The Eagles have landed a win at long last

UNDER 9: PARKWAY Eagles had a morning to remember as they chalked up their first win in almost two seasons of football with a 1-0 success against Netherton Buzzards.

The Yellow Zone strugglers have endured a tough time so far but there were huge celebrations at The Grange on Saturday when Nathan Braga scored the only goal following a Matthew Hyman free kick in the second half.

Manager Andy Luxford said: “It was amazing for the boys and such a pick-me-up after no wins for over a year and a half. The whole team were terrific and everyone played really well and did their jobs and thoroughly deserved their first win.”

STAMFORD moved a step closer to mid-table respectability after producing their best performance of the season against Parkside.

Aaron Wallace led the way with a hat-trick while Jack Jackson and Elliott Green were the other lads on target for the young Daniels who moved five points clear of the Blue Zone bottom three.

Charlie Martin scored twice for Parkside but it was never going to be enough to stop the in-form Lincolnshire lads.

NORTHBOROUGH could be turning black and blue next season if plans to join their two teams get the go-ahead.

So far this term the Blues and the Blacks have struggled in their respective zones and Black manager Alan Kerley believes consolidation could turn Northborough into a force to be reckoned with in this age group.

Kerley’s team wrapped up a 3-1 win against Crowland in the White Zone on Saturday thanks to goals from Alfie Webb, Bradley Washington and Henry Walden.

Kerley said: “It was a good win but we are too far behind Deeping to improve on our league position. There is talk that next year we might be joining with the Blues which would really raise the standard.”

In the Red Zone, Northborough Blue also enjoyed a good day chalking up a 6-0 win against Pinchbeck - their biggest win of the season.

Reuben Wheeler and Harrison Kelly both scored twice with Joshua Stimson and Matthew Wright also on target.

Manager Phil Stimson said: “They beat us 3-0 last time we played them so we really managed to turn the tables which was great for the boys.”
