Junior football: Royle family could cause a few upsets
UNDER 11: YAXLEY Lynx might not win the Division One title this season but there is every chance they will have a big say on who does.
Goals for Sam Royle and William Firman secured a 2-1 win against last season’s beaten League Cup finalists Pinchbeck to keep Yaxley in touch with the leaders.
And while manager James Royle’s main aim this season is Division One survival, he does expect Lynx to be punching well above their weight when they take on the big guns - starting next Sunday against leaders Powerleague.
Royle said: “We played really well at the back against Pinchbeck and I thought my centre-halves, Josh Gadd and Harry Whittington, and our goalie Miles Shire were all excellent and of course we took our chances well.
“When we were put in Division One for this season the main aim was to stay there and build on it and I think it will be between Deeping, Hampton or Powerleague. But we will be having our say.
“We fear no one in this division and I am sure we will give a good account of ourselves on Sunday.”
n POWERLEAGUE warmed up for their clash with Yaxley by delivering an impressive performance to beat Bourne Claret 11-2.
Jordan Venters and Keelan McCulloch both hit hat-tricks while Alex Usatenko (2), Kian Meadows, Jamie Scott and Roman Patterson were also on target in the league leaders’ sixth win from six games.
n COMPLACENCY could be the biggest enemy for Division Two leaders Blackstones this season according to manager Raf Mazzarella.
Brittany Ellis and Colin Burgess both hit hat-tricks while Scott Waumsley and an own goal did the rest of the damage to King’s Cliffe who were thrashed 8-0 by Stones on Sunday.
The Stamford side now look certain to clinch the title and book their place in Division One sooner rather than later but according to Mazzarella, his team should not get too big for their boots.
He said: “To be fair the attitude of my team is great in every game but it does concern me that we might start going into games thinking we have won before a ball has been kicked.
“Complacency could be a problem but it is my job to keep our motivation as we push on towards our goal of promotion. We should have a good game against Netherton this week so that is something to look forward to and hopefully we will get a tasty draw in the League Cup quarter-finals too.”
n IN Division Three goals for Tinur Ozmen (2), Jacob Stokes and Paulo Poli gave FC Inter a much-needed 4-0 win at Thurlby.
Manager Enzo Spataro said: “We have had a tough start to the season against the top sides but hopefully this will give the boys the confidence needed to push on and start getting a few more positive results.”
