Junior football: Rampant Rippingale steam past the Railway children
UNDER 14: RIPPINGALE and Folkingham swaggered into the quarter-finals of the Lincolnshire Cup with a 5-0 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
The village side have certainly been punching above their weight this season and goals from Zak Munton, Aaron Fleet, Joseph Roberts, Thomas Branch and Tom Smith were more than enough to leave Railway on the canvas.
And now having booked their place in the last eight, manager Andy O’Connell believes his side have at least an outside chance of going all the way.
He said: “We stepped into the unknown a bit on Sunday and came away with another great result. Myself and the lads enjoy this competition as it gives us the chance to go to new places and take on new teams and so far it has been going really well.
“We are through to the quarter-finals now and while there are some very good teams left, we fancy our chances against anybody. The boys have done really well just to get here but it would be nice to think they could go even further.”
Rippingale will be hoping to keep their Division Two title bid on track this Sunday when they take on third-place Powerleague.
NETHERTON also enjoyed success on county cup duty when they won 2-1 at Wootton St George in the Northants Cup.
Joe Kelly and Ibra Ahmed netted for the city side who join Kings Cliffe in the quarter-finals after they upset the formbook to scrape past Brackley Town 4-3.
The Division Three outfit must surely be the biggest over-achievers left in the competition as they continued their fairytale run thanks to goals from Billy Frohmaier (2), Jamie Andrew and Chris Cooper.
Manager Perry Miller said: “We have done really well in this competition and it just goes to show what can be achieved with the right attitude and a bit of belief. We had a real battle against Brackley and they put us under a lot of pressure towards the end of the game but we held on and are delighted to be representing Division Three in the next round.”
WITH Rippingale and Folkingham away on county cup duty, Wisbech St Mary took full advantage to go top of the Division One table by beating Thorney. Reagan Brown, Ross Beart and Alistair Morgan secured a 3-0 win for the Saints and moved them two points clear of their rivals.
FOUR goals from Jake Cooper left leaders Glinton reeling as Northborough cantered to a 5-1 win in their Division Three clash.
Liam Manning got the other goal as third-placed Northborough breathed new life in their own title hopes.
