Junior football: Lynx claw their way back for revenge win

UNDER 12: YAXLEY Lynx came from behind to snatch a 2-1 win against Pinchbeck with two spectacular second-half goals.

After going 1-0 down to a Jacko Withers strike in the first half, Lynx clawed their way back after the break thanks to a 25-yard free-kick from Liam Hatfield and a cracking diving header from Sam Royle.

Yaxley lost 7-2 to Pinchbeck when the two sides met at the start of the season, and manager James Royle was pleased his side got their revenge as well as securing some precious Division One points.

He said: “They battered us in the second half when we played them last time so it was good to get the win on Sunday. They are a very good side and for us to come back the way we did will give the boys a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.

“Before Sunday we had not played that many league games because of our commitments in the Hunts Cup and the League Cup so it was important to get another three points on the board to give us something to build on.”

NETHERTON Falcons picked up their first league win of the season when they beat Bourne 3-1.

Reece Driscoll, Thomas Sanderson and Kyrie Foster were the lads on target for the Falcons who remain three points adrift at the bottom of the table.

JACK Gale breezed through the Yaxley Blue defence to hit a hat-trick as Wisbech St Mary Yellow won 6-3 to move back up to second place in Division Two. Cameron Lee, Airidas Prakulisas and Lewis Swann were also on target for the Saints.

WISBECH St Mary Black boss Nathan Forbes shuffled his pack on Sunday but still came up trumps against Thurlby.

Knowing his team would be strong favourites to beat the Division Three strugglers, Forbes gave starts to several players usually more used to warming the bench but it did nothing to damage Saints’ promotion hopes after they won 9-0.

Terry Willmott led the way with four goals while Luke Foster grabbed a hat-trick and Robbie Knight bagged a brace.

Forbes said: “We mixed it up a bit and I was very pleased with the way the team performed.

“It is important to use the whole squad when we get the chance and give some of the other boys the opportunity to impress and they did that.

“Over the season we will need them all to contribute if we want to win promotion in our first season in the Junior Alliance.”
