Under 9 Yellow Zone: PASTON Flyers made the most of the weekend freeze to steal a march on their Yellow Zone rivals.

With most other games in their age group called off, the league leaders moved three points clear at the top of the table as Owen Dalliday led a red-hot scoring performance at Northern Star.

Dalliday cracked in four goals at Chestnut Avenue while Thomas Fox (2), Josh Hogg and Jaiden Lawrence were the other lads on target as the Flyers soared to an impressive victory.

Manager Kev Jenkins said: “The last time we played them it was a really close game which we only just managed to win 6-5 but it was a totally different story on Saturday.

“Star were probably not at their best but we were fantastic and the result just goes to show the kind of improvements we have made this season.

“It really was a terrific result and it leaves us in a great position but there is still a long way to go so we won’t be getting too far ahead of ourselves just yet.”

Jenkins’ young side wasted no time getting ahead on Saturday, however, as they raced into a 4-0 lead by the half-time break.

Dalliday opened the scoring from the spot after Hogg was fouled in the area and minutes later Fox popped up in the box to double the advantage.

Midway through the half Hogg was on target to make it 3-0 before Dalliday bagged his second of the match to put the Flyers firmly in control.

Shortly after the re-start the home side struck back when Luca Phillips found the bottom corner after being put through by Lewis Whissin but it was only a brief reprieve for Star.

Danny Prior set up Flyers’ fifth goal with a mazy run down the left before sending over a cross for Lawrence to strike at the back post.

And there was still time for Dalliday to go on and complete his hat-trick before adding a fourth in the dying minutes for good measure.

Northern Star boss Tony Garrish said: “We looked nervous at the back all game and that was not helped by the fact we haven’t got a keeper.

“I had to give my two strikers - Cameron Scott and Jacob Sauer - a half each which obviously unsettled the team a lot.

“It’s a shame as we had been having a good season and this is definitely a set-back but we can bounce back and we will.”
